The narrative must be changed today, away from ‘migration crisis’ to focus on opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and new models of leadership.
Europe has been a central player in global migration for centuries. With immigration flows changing over time, the various needs of different types of migrants have too. In recent decades, migrants in Europe have increasingly moved to entrepreneurship. 1 in 10 firms in Italy are founded by migrant entrepreneurs, for example, while in the Netherlands 16% of entrepreneurs have a migrant background, and in Paris migrants represented 14% of entrepreneurs in 2014.
We must not ignore, however, the many barriers migrant entrepreneurs face throughout their entrepreneurial journey. We therefore urge ****both policy makers and incubator professionals to focus on coordinating and supporting the value of national, ethnic, and cultural diversity brought by immigrant entrepreneurs.
